Access on Ubuntu

Note on use outside of the HTW Berlin:

Outside the HTW (e.g. at home) it is necessary to first set up a VPN connection to the university! This article will show you how to do this on your computer.

Requirement under Ubuntu 18.04

If you are using Ubuntu 18.04, you must first create the following prerequisites:

  1. Install the "smbclient" via the terminal:
    sudo apt-get install smbclient
  2. Then enter this line in the file /etc/samba/smb.conf under the line „workgroup =WORKGROUP”:
    client max protocol = NT1

Step 1: Open file manager

Open "Files".

Step 2: Connect to server

Under "Network", click "Connect to Server". In the window that opens, enter under server address: "smb://homedrive.htw-berlin.de/[YOUR-HTW-USERNAME]" (e.g. smb://homedrive.htw-berlin.de/s0000001) and press "Connect".

Step 3: Enter the credentials

Please enter your HTW account data. The domain is: “LOGIN”. Confirm the entry with "Connect".

Step 4: Connection established

After successfully entering your login data, the "HTW Space" will be displayed as a drive under "Network".
